Outdoor activities around Vilamoura

When to go on holiday in Vilamoura, besides being able to enjoy its beautiful gardens for walks or family bike rides, you can also take advantage of its excellent accessibility. The road network allows rapid connections between the main towns in the Algarve via the Via do Infante or the National Road 125, which cross the whole of the southern Algarve coastline.

If you are staying at the Dom Pedro Vilamoura, Dom Pedro Marina or Dom Pedro Portobelo we suggest that your itinerary starts early in the morning with a visit to the city of Faro. By car, this is a journey which takes no more than 25 minutes. Here, a visit to the built heritage of its historical centre is almost a mini-itinerary in itself. Inside the walls of the medieval period, you can visit the cathedral which is the seat of the Faro diocese and is classified as property of public interest. The paintings, gilded woodcarvings, tile panels and the beautiful 1715 organ are artefacts worthy of contemplation. Around here, we recommend a visit to the gardens and the Palace of Estoi and the Roman ruins of Milreu.

Another place to include in your itinerary is the Ria Formosa Natural Park, one of the most beautiful in the country. If you prefer a guided tour, head for Olhão, just 10 km from Faro, where you can stop for a delicious lunch with sea flavours. In Ria Formosa, visits to Ilha da Culatra and Ilha da Armona are a must, as they are places of enormous landscape and environmental richness. During your visit, take advantage of occasional stops to take a dip in the crystal-clear waters of the Ria.

If you are looking for ideas on what to do in the Algarve with kids, this may be a suggestion to consider, as it will fill everyone's day with fun and educational activities.

Outdoor activities around Lagos

During your stay at the Dom Pedro Lagos, we suggest that your itinerary starts with a visit to the beautiful streets of the historic city centre - which is closely linked to the Discoveries' epopee and, therefore, very rich in terms of history and heritage.

From here, head to the Ponta da Bandeira Fortress (at the southern end of the city), where you can visit the chapel of Santa Bárbara and admire the beauty of the maritime landscape. Just 3 km away, visit Ponta da Piedade, one of the most beautiful places in the Algarve region. We recommend a walk along the wooden walkway that follows the coastline. Prepare yourself to be absolutely amazed.

After a break for lunch, take the opportunity to relax on the beaches of Dona Ana, Camilo or Porto de Mós, all situated near Ponta da Piedade.

In the middle of the afternoon, visit Sagres and Cape St. Vincent - the most south-western point of the European continent, within the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentina Coast Natural Park; or, in the opposite direction, go to Lagoa to visit the well-known Carvoeiro walkway, 570 metres long and overlooking the sea.

From here you can even do the Seven Hanging Valleys route, considered one of the best walking trails in the Algarve. This itinerary has various points of interest, such as, for example, Cabo Carvoeiro and the beach and caves of Benagil.

As the length of the route is long, about 11.5 km, which can be difficult to do with kids, you can always get to know some of the points of interest of this route through a boat trip, a fantastic experience.

Back in Lagos, relax in our wonderful swimming pool and review the photos of this memorable day.
